Touche

It has been almost 1 week since we came back from the first ever Touche Fencing Competition.
Since then, our so-called official blog of USM Fencing Club is still...still remains the same..Looks like somebody has to step up and do something.

Anyway, I'm kinda excited to share what me or we as a team has gone through so far. Hopefully, my DEAR TEAMMATES can share some of your PRECIOUS experience here as well.
I knew you guys have a lot to say and can really "TALK", since we (less than 20 people) can make the whole bus and whole GIS Sports Hall almost runtuh. So, don't be so kedekut ya. Share!

So..This is the first picture we took on the first day of our intensive training. Obviously...
As you can see, all of us are still full with energy and can still smile. Too bad we didn't take any photos on the last day to show the contrast of it. My guess is that we were too exhausted till we can't even hold a 500g camera =.=

Honestly, I can't remember how I passed through that 7 days (20nov till 26nov). It was a routine of activities..wake up, training, eat, nap, training, eat, bath, sleep..And "ThankS" to this intensive training, I was rewarded with 4 not-so-small blisters beneath my toes and a few nice, rounded shape bruisies here and there..haha..(ABE, I'm not complaining! ;p)
To be franked a 7-days intensive training is too short for us to pick up what people did for 7 years. Anyway, I believe that all of us have learnt a lot through it, no matter in Fencing or in life. Vincent, regretted of not joining us? I bet you do..;p

Hmm..on the 28th, we reached UM in the evening after an almost 7 hour ride from USM. That was like the longest ever journey I took to KL from penang. Courtesy to our dear driver, En. Abu. But as the malay "proverb" says: LAMBAT ASALKAN SELAMAT. A million thank you to En. Abu for successfully hantar us all the way to KL and all the way back to PG safe and sound.
On that evening itself, we took another looooooooooooooooonggg journey to Mid Valley, around 2 hours I think. Long enough for me to go from my home to USM back and forth a few times. Sorry guys, I'm not so familiar with routes in KL, thus, the timing is a bit off. Ended up I heard lots of grunting..from your stomach..haha..sorry ..

On the next day, again..we spent sometime on the bus again. This time, spinning around Bukit Kiara, looking for the competition venue. Eventually, a beautiful school..(more like a college to me than a school) came into our view. Wow..I wonder how much do these kids pay per month in order to study here..Anybody took a photo of it? Post it!

After a long winding "introduction" to our journey, I should write something about our competition, which should be the main topic here ;p.. Bear with me.
On the first day, after the woos and wahsss admiring people's "school", our war began..

Women's foilists are just one step..I should say 1 point away from earning our first medal of the day.

4 juniors competed in this event, 2 entered the quarter finals, 1 nearly won..
Girls, although no medal is won, I'm still proud of you gals, I'm sure that all of you have learnt something after all.

Love this photo.. you gals will make a special team

With Min Er..the gal with strong powerful laughter (I missed the HAHAHAHA)
With Kai Lin..the gal who is always cooking "porridge".. Where's my pei dan zhuk anyway?
With Mei Fong..the gal who is always there to help me take care of those lame's (THANKS!)
and Maryanne..the..err...maid..hahaha

You are unique, each and everyone of you..Women's Foil team! Keep it up!

So tall..that is what you can say when you are with Men's Epee Team..Opps..sorry Raymond, we took this photo after you left, we did leave a place for you in the pic..which is..on the floor..=.=

We have 4 fencers competed in this category after the withdrawal of Rhu Yann due to injuries.
At the end of the day, our SUPERSTAR-- Wen Fong won us a silver medal. Cheers! A gold next time! WF, you did show some improvement..in terms of team spirit. I can hear you now ;)

Raymond and Vincent, you guys took up Epee for weeks or may be days only. The performance was "amat sangat memuaskan sekali", but, you know you can be better..again.. Keep it up!!

Our sabre team is officially 16-days-old!! I knew its hard for you 2 to compete in something you barely knew. But, guess what you guys won us the first gold of the competition!

Pei I'ng, there is still a long way to go although you won something in your first ever competition. You know that =)..Standards here and there are different..Push yourself to greater heights, see what you can achieve later. But first, take good care of your knee ya.

Jun Long, you was ranked 5th among other experienced fencers. I should say that it was not so bad, you really looked like a SABRE fencer with your strokes, postures and footwork. Good job!

Proud of you 2, I'm not sure whether me myself have the guts to go for competition in something I only picked up for 5 days..haha..All the best to you 2.

And so..we ended our first day of competition not empty handed. =)

Tuan-tuan dan Puan-puan, diperkenalkan the Men's Foil Team of USM..Clap Clap Clap..=.=

Hey Abe, there is nothing there up at the ceiling.
CCC, I know your shoes looks nice.

Peir Kern, why are you staring at Abe? Is he that good looking? =.=

Collin, that's right..look at the camera and say CHEESE!

Haha..and so, we started our 2nd day with Men's Foil.
1 bronze form Men's Foil, Bravo CCC..Looks like you still can't break the jinx of winning something in Foil rather than Epee. Nevermine, there is still UMS Open next year before you graduate.. Epee that time..
5 competed, 1 fell out in the quarters, 1 bronze..

CPK make sure you get 15 next time instead of 1, just add a "5" behind..yes, you can..

Collin, it's good to see that juniors can actually outclass seniors..
Believe in yourself, with trainings and more exposure, you can reach the stars..

Abe..I should award you the MOST VERSATILE FENCERS OF ALL TIMES..you are basically good in everything..
Most of all..Thanks for your guidance, the team appreciate it ;)

Here comes the Women's Epee Team!
That was like the funniest and riddiculous final I have ever been to..I can't believe you guys actually boo-ed at Yuh Min..haha..although I knew you just did it for fun.
Jac, sorry if my "yelling" confused you, I should keep my big mouth shut next time :p..I know it hurts by just being 1 step away...But, live with it and deal with it! Be better!
Yen Sin, seems like I'm always the one bullying you as a roommate and as a teammate, that's what others suggest, I don't actually think so..haha..
Beat me next time, you can..and I will take on the challenge.. ;)

Yuh Min, this is my 3rd competition with you, I'm sure that there will be many more ahead.. I bet you won't regret entering USM, right? It was such a nice university with so many NICE PEOPLE :pGood luck and all the best in SEAFF anyway!

And so, we ended our 2 days war and came back home with bruises, injuries, blisters, big strong muscles, sweat, experience, fun, joy, tiredness and empty pocket (ate too much and too good that few days..nice food in MidValley and WanUtama: japanese food, cinnamon roll, salad, spagetti, bread, bread and bread and last but not least ice-cream :p)

A million thank you to those who helped and assisted us during our intensive training and competition...Unit Sukan, Sir Lim, Coach Rizal, Wei Loon, Ling Ling and my TEAMMATES! Thank you!

It was great to be in such a wonderful team :)

Minden Fencers roared, roar and will roar again when the next sems begins!
Minden Fencers ROAR!

Bonus Pics:

why so serious....

Jac: Mary, you should parry, disengage and touche right in the middle of her chest.
Mei Fong, Mary, Abe nod nod nod..
CCC: Cheh!...Epeeist teaching foilist how to play foil..
=.=

Congrats to all!
Winning is not everything, but I still hope that someday we will have more and more fencers in this pic =)

Go for it!

P/S: Where is the Epee Team nice buttocks pic..ahahahha..I want it!! and the group photos as well.. =)

PENUTUP:
It's long winding..I know..make sure all of you read it, cause I spent my whole evening "producing" it. If not..hmm
44 sets of Marche Rompre,
555 lunges,
Dummy Exercise 66 sets
and 7 rounds of track exercise..WAHAHAHA

USM FENCING CLUB

>> 08 November 2008

USM Fencing Club, Kelab Lawan Pedang USM was established in 2007 by a few USM students who have great passion in this sport which is not that well-known and popular in university as well as in the country. However, with the help of PAFA (Penang Amatuer Fencing Association), Penang Fencing Team, Sports Department of USM and the commitment of both the juniors and senior fencers, we managed to build up a team in this short period of time.

ACHIEVEMENT

>> 06 November 2008

USM Close Fencing Championship was held at the end of Sept 2007 as a platform to boost the interest of our newly recruited fencers into this unique and special combat sports which acquired not only physical but also mental strength in order to excel in it. In March 2008, 10 fencers comprised of 7 guys and 3 female fencers represented USM in UMS Fencing Open Championship.

In UMS Open which is the 1st major competition we took part , we achieved satisfactory result as a rookie team where we won 2 bronzes in foil mixed team event and women's individual epee event. Besides that, although being the 1st batch of fencers under USM Fencing Club, 2 of our fencers were recruited into Penang Fencing Team based on our commitment and excellent performance in training as well as competition. They have represented Penang in the Danga Bay International Games 2008 and SUKMA 2008 as state fencers.

Now, USM Fencing Club just celebrated it's 1 year old birthday. We have currently recruited 60 new members where 20 of them remained as active members. In September, we successfully held the 2nd USM Close Fencing Championship 2008 where a few new talents are identified through this competition.

In Penang Close Competition 2008, a few juniors represented USM in this first stage of sirkit competition and showed promising performance where they won a few bronzes although this is only their 1st competition. Overall, with the contribution of senior fencers, USM Fencing Club won 2 gold's, 1 silver and 4 bronzes. Moreover, under "Warga Sukan" Scheme of USM, we recruited a state fencer, Ms Seng Yuh Min this year. She won a few major local and international tournaments representing the state of Penang and the country as well. The most established one was the Navy Open Fencing Championship held in Thailand where she won gold and bronzes in it.

For now, the fencers are trained under Mr. Lim Peng Jin who is the secretary of PAFA and our volunteer coach. With the help of other senior fencers, the juniors are progressing well, although more exposure is needed for greater improvement. In Nov, USM Fencing Club has been invited to join Touche Inter College & University Fencing Championship 2008 held by Touche Fencing Club. This will be one of the major tournament in our calender, around 12-15 fencers will be representing USM. Moreover, we will have a representatives in Fencing Grand Prix, UMS Open and other competitions as well.
